14th ANNUAL CHUMASH CULTURE DAY TO HOST NATIVE AMERICAN SINGING AND DANCING IN ONLINE EVENT

SANTA YNEZ, CA — October 20, 2020 — The 14th annual Chumash Culture Day will go virtual this year, featuring California-style Native American singing and dancing in a Facebook Live event at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 23.

In past years, the annual event, which has always been free and open to the public, has featured arts and crafts, singing and dancing, and a traditional hand-game tournament at the Tribal Hall on the Santa Ynez Reservation.

This year, due to COVID-19 concerns associated with hosting special events, the tribe is moving Culture Day to an online format that can be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/SYChumashCultureDay2020.

The program will begin by an opening blessing, followed by the honoring of a Santa Ynez Chumash elder, then a host of California-style Native American singing and dancing before closing with a video that will show highlights from past Chumash Culture Days.

For more information, call the Santa Ynez Chumash Tribal Hall at 805-688-7997.
