CHART-TOPPING INSTRUMENTALIST KENNY G TO PERFORM AT CHUMASH CASINO RESORT
SANTA YNEZ, CA – October 16, 2023 – Smooth jazz instrumentalist and producer Kenny G, who has scored top Billboard hits with “Forever in Love” and “By the Time This Night Is Over,” will bring his North American tour to the Samala Showroom at 8 p.m. on Friday, November 3 at the Chumash Casino Resort. In 1966, at the age of 10, Kenneth Gorelick began playing the saxophone after being captivated by a saxophonist on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” He developed his talents by playing under the direction of trumpeter Gerald Pfister and by practicing along with records from Grover Washington Jr. and Stan Getz. In 1973, at the age of 17, he began his career as a sideman for Barry White’s Love Unlimited Orchestra. From 1975-1980, he was a member of a Seattle Funk band as well as a member of the Jeff Lorber Fusion.
Beginning his solo career as Kenny G in 1982, his self-titled album earned him a spot on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. He soon followed his debut with the albums, “G Force” (1983), and “Gravity” (1985). In 1986, he reached stardom with his fourth album, “Duotones,” which featured the hit single, “Songbird.” The album reached the top 10 on the pop and jazz charts.
In 1992, Kenny G gained even more attention with the release of his album, “Breathless,” spawning the hit single “Forever in Love,” which earned him a Grammy for Best Instrumental Composition. He also began working on movie soundtracks for popular films such as, “Pretty Woman,” “Dying Young” and “The Bodyguard.” In 1994, he released his successful holiday album, “Miracles,” which reached No. 1 on the pop, R&B and jazz charts.
Kenny G has scored more than 10 No. 1 Billboard Jazz albums, including 2004’s “At Last…The Duets.” In 2008, he released the Latin-infused album, “Rhythm and Romance,” which was followed by the R&B-influenced “Heart and Soul” in 2010 with guest vocals from Robin Thicke and Babyface. The album earned him No. 1 on the Billboard Jazz chart. After two more album releases, Kenny G continued with his active tour schedule. In 2019, G guest appeared on Kayne West’s song, “Use This Gospel.”
With his return to solo work in 2021, Kenny G released, “New Standards” inspired by classic standards of the ‘50s and ‘60s. He will be releasing his 20th studio album, “Innocence” in December 2023. Proclaimed as the biggest-selling instrumental musician of all-time, Kenny G continues to captivate new audiences and inspire millions worldwide.
