MORRIS DAY AND THE TIME TO PERFORM AT CHUMASH CASINO RESORT
SANTA YNEZ, CA – August 14, 2025 – Morris Day and the Time, the American funk rock band known for tracks like “Jungle Love” and “The Bird” bring their vibrant sound to the Chumash Casino Resort’s Samala Showroom at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2025. The original group known as “The Time” was a creation of pop icon Prince, who wanted to produce a street-wise funk band as a contrast to his more soulful R&B sound. Prince placed his high school friend Morris Day as the lead vocalist, and he would cast the group in his 1984 film “Purple Rain,” which captured the Minneapolis music scene at its peak.
Morris Day served in a scene-stealing supporting role as The Time’s lead singer, along with Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Alexander O’Neal, Monte Moir, Jesse Johnson and Jellybean Johnson.
“Purple Rain” was a turning point for the group, bringing a greater surge of popularity with hit singles like “Jungle Love” and “The Bird.” In 1990, their album “Pandemonium” introduced their highest-selling single “Jerk Out,” and their 2011 album “Condensate” introduced popular tracks, such as “If I Was Yo Man” and “#Trendin.” Peaking at No. 10 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, “Condensate” involved the reunion of the original lineup after over two decades apart and proved their ability to deliver high-energy tracks with mass appeal, even in an evolved musical environment.
Currently featuring Morris Day, Jellybean Johnson, Torrell “Tori” Ruffin,” Ricky “Freeze” Smith, Sylvester Donald, Andre “PaDre” Holmes and Christopher Troy, the band earned the Legend Award at the 2022 Soul Train Awards, honoring their role in shaping the Minneapolis sound and influencing funk and R&B genres.
