FILIPINA SUPERSTARS CUNETA, VELASQUEZ TO PERFORM AT CHUMASH CASINO RESORT
SANTA YNEZ, CA – March 8, 2023 – “Iconic,” the co-headlining 16-show concert tour by Filipina superstar singers Sharon Cuneta and Regine Velasquez, comes to the Samala Showroom at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 at the Chumash Casino Resort. Tickets for the show are $99, $109, $119, $129 and $139.
Cuneta, who has been called “The Megastar of Philippine Entertainment,” has been transcending Philippine pop culture since she was just 12 years old when she stepped into the limelight with the wildly popular song “Mr. DJ.” Later that year, she released her debut album, “DJ’s Pet” and its follow-up, “Sharon,” followed by a self-titled LP in 1980.
As Cuneta grew out of adolescence, so did her musical style. Before long, her endearing innocence was replaced by a more soulful approach and slicker musical arrangements. In 1993, Cuneta won an Awit Award for Best Performance by a Female Recording Artist, the Philippines’ most prestigious music honor. Cuneta went on to become a multi-Platinum recording artist, has starred in dozens of films and television shows, has recorded 40 albums and as the highest-paid product endorser in the Philippines, has done commercials for McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and Colgate, to name a few.
Velasquez, who is best known as “Asia’s songbird,” is one of the best-selling Filipino pop singers of all time, having sold 8.5 million records regionally. She first gained recognition by winning both the 1984 Ang Bagong Kampeon and the 1989 Asia-Pacific Song Contest. She rose to fame with the release of the single “Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang” from her self-titled debut album in 1987. The album was well received and produced two more singles, “Urong Sulong” and “Isang Lahi,” establishing her as a commercially viable Filipino pop artist.
She signed a recording contract with Polygram Records in 1994 and released the album “Listen Without Prejudice,” establishing herself as an up-and-coming artist in the Southeast and East Asian region. It became her best-selling record in the region to date and included the top hit “In Love With You,” which became her most successful single.
