SANTA YNEZ TRIBAL HEALTH CLINIC ADDS FULL-TIME CHIROPRACTOR

SANTA YNEZ, CA – February 7, 2023 – The Santa Ynez Tribal Health Clinic (SYTHC), the state-of-the-art facility on the Santa Ynez Reservation, has announced that it has added full-time chiropractic services to its current offerings of medical, dental, behavioral health and community and social services for Chumash Community Members and the greater community.

Dr. Andrew West, a 2002 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in San Jose, specializes in musculoskeletal sprains and strains of the spine and extremities. Dr. West, who grew up locally in Los Olivos, moved back to the valley in 2003 to start his own practice, West Chiropractic, in Buellton with the intention of giving back to the people of his hometown community. In July 2019, he began seeing patients at SYTHC on a part-time basis. On Monday, Dr. West joined the clinic as its first full-time chiropractor.

“A core objective of the strategic plan for our clinic is to identify, prioritize and meet the health needs within our community,” said Richard Matens, Chief Health Officer for the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians. “The provision of chiropractic services is one of these previously unmet needs, in that the demand has been greater than we have been able to historically satisfy. Therefore, we are fortunate to be able to achieve this strategic objective by bringing Dr. Andrew West on board at SYTHC on a full-time basis starting this month.”

Current West Chiropractic patients can continue to be treated by Dr. West at SYTHC. He sees CenCal Health patients of all ages, accepts cash payments on a sliding fee scale from qualified patients and accepts many major insurance providers, including non-HMO plans with Blue Shield of California, Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross and Medicare. Contact your insurance provider or SYTHC at 805-688-7070 for the latest updates on your coverage.

SYTHC accommodates more than 20,000 patient visits per year with an active patient population of over 7,400 and employs 70 team members.

SYTHC is located on the Santa Ynez Reservation at 90 Via Juana Lane in Santa Ynez. The staff specializes in the highest standards of quality health care through modern medicine and cultural traditions. While the clinic’s comprehensive medical, dental and behavioral health services are available to Chumash Community Members, the clinic also treats non-native patients of diverse ethnic backgrounds with unique needs. The facility accepts Medicare, Medi-Cal and most major insurance plans.

The clinic is a not-for-profit organization under the Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) guidelines and receives funding through various grants, including grants from the Indian Health Services (IHS). The clinic has achieved mature contractor status with IHS and the Bureau of Indian Affairs and is certified as an FQHC look-a-like Medi-Cal/Medicare facility.
